MARCH 15 - JUNE 6: SPRING SESSION BEGINS at Saffron Dance in Arlington, VA
Kostana's classes are:
Tuesdays: 7:15pm-8:15pm - Oriental 1 Technique & Drills
8:15pm-9:15pm - Cane (Assaya) Performance Class. This class will perform in the Saffron student showcase in Spring. Concurrent registration in a Saffron technique class is required to sign-up for this class. Class includes Assaya technique and choreography.

SIDQI'S CORNER:
JANUARY 10 -FEBRUARY 28: Sidqi teaches Advanced Tabla (Darabuka/Doumbek) classes at Sahara Dance, followed by an open drum circle.
Classes are Sundays:
Advanced Tabla: 2:30pm - 3:15pm
Open Drum & Dance Circle with Sahara Tabla and Raqs Caravan: 3:15pm-4pm

DRUM & RHYTHM WORKSHOPS:

WORKSHOPS OFFERED IN AUTHENTIC TURKISH ORIENTAL & ROMANY DANCE, RHYTHM & MOVEMENT, ETC.
Following are some of the groups workshop topics we are currently offering:
1) “Feeling the 9/8 rhythm” – An introduction for beginners on how to dance to Turkish 9/8 rhythms: Romani & Karsilama. This class can be geared more towards bellydancers incorporating Turkish into their repertoire, or folkdancers wanting to learn authentic Turkish Romani social dancing (also see Turkish Romani workshop below!).

2) “Intro to Turkish music and the elements of a professional Turkish bellydance show” –
This is a movement class for dancers with some previous experience with bellydance and/or Turkish dance.
3) "Turkish Romani Social Dance" -
This class gives a brief overview of Turkish Romani music & dance. Kostana will teach basic steps & gestures used in Turkish Romani social dancing. Discussion of instrumentation, costuming, etc. is included. Video footage may also be included.

4) "Rhythm & Movement" -
Kostana and Sidqi co-teach this workshop in basic Arabic rhythms and movement. This workshop can be tailored to the needs of the group in terms of which rhythms are covered. Kostana can also include a beginner's intro to zils in this workshop. Different zil and movement combinations will be used with different rhythms covered.
5) Kostana is also available to teach specialty workshops in Drum Solo and Cane Technique/Choreography, please contact for details.
Kostana and Sidqi have taught workshops at Baltimore Bellypalooza, Saffron Dance, Drum & Splash, and Buffalo on the Danube camp. Sidqi has also taught tabla workshops at Folktours and Eastern European Folklife Center camps.
